Our Holiday in Greece April 2025

When they told me that we were going to a Greek island I didn't think it was really Greece, but I wasn't thinking; of course, Homer tells us about the travels of Odysseus, the first traveler in history, who sails from one island to the next in his journey to reach home, the island of Ithaca.

.

On each island, he has a different adventure, on one he meets a sorceress, on another he meets cannibals, on another he meets the sirens whose haunting songs lure the sailors into danger, but nothing happens on the island

visited, it's just a beautiful peaceful place.

An island with no action and not many restaurants to experience would be a waste of Avishai's precious short vacation, he also cherished the idea of spending his hard earned free days with his brother Ittamar and his family.

The plan was to land in Athens, spend a day experiencing the culinary delights, I had delicious Muisaka, Avishai hed lamb and everyone ate happily the dishes they ordered from the jovial light greay bearded waiter who looked like an ex monk. They were all there, Lavie and Omer and their kids Alma and Jonathan, Ettie and I and Avishai.

On our way back to the Plaka hotel we passed by some ancient buildings and I kept thinking about Plato walking here.

A big black van took us all to the ferry the next day, Thursday 3rd April at 12:30 to sail to Agistri, one of the small islands an hour and a half ferry ride from Piraeus.

Dinner at Yialos a ten minute walk on the sidewalk of grey pebbes, stark trees with arms stretching out to heaven as in prayer to the cloud covered heavens next to us, the pebbly beach on the one side and the almost deserted red brick road on the other. White painted houses framed in verandas with deep blue cornices escourted us.

Breakfast at Saronis, served by an efusive Greek lady, the owner of the establishment, in semi outdoors with a view of a courtyard of red brick. A yellow decorative covered wagon carried to yellow and blue flowers to the delight of the guests.

On our last day, Sunday we did a tour of the island by car and a professional tourguide. Breakfast was at 11:30 and at 12 we were on the ferry back to Athens.

Our Mercedes rent a car with Avishai driving took us about 300Km to Meteora for a stay in a hotel in the shadow of the mountains with monateries balanced precariously on the peaks.

After a journey back to Athens Ettie and I spent the eveing eating delicious lamb and listening to Greek music in the taverna.

I searched for a bookshop and found an Indian restaurant then joined Etti and Avishai for lunch of a good leg of lamb at a restaurant on the slope of the Acropolis.
